5 Best Cafes in Perth

5 of the best cafes in Perth, Australia
5 of the best cafes in Perth, Australia.

With cafe culture in Perth steadily growing, this Western Australian city has become home to a number of popular cafe spots and is steadily introducing trendy cafes in all of suburban Perth. If you know me, you know that I could easily spend all day in a cafe. I’ve been living in suburbia for the last three months and have done my fair share of cafe hopping within the ‘burbs around me, between the beach suburbs all the way into West Leederville, finding everything from cafes specializing in healthy vegan brunch to the tastiest coffee, the best lattes and the fluffiest bagels with homemade cream cheese. In no special order, here are my favorite cafes in Perth that I’ve found myself regularly visiting to write, to grab lunch, for take-away coffees and chais and to hit up for first Tinder dates.

KAFFEINE CAFE

Where: 4/707 N Beach Rd, Gwelup WA

Just a quick walk around the corner from my house in Gwelup, Kaffeine is one of my local cafes in Perth and was the first place I went in Gwelup when I moved in. The walls are full of pictures, the colors are bright and colorful and the inside is really spacious – oh ya, they have free wifi and I’m currently sitting on their couch in the back writing this! They have a great sitting area outside for those who want to feel the sunshine or a cool, air-conditioned area in the back for those wanting to escape the heat.

The staff are friendly, there isn’t a very long wait time for food and they’re open until 5pm every single day of the week. Best of all, they have loads of veg and gluten free options! It’s almost directly across the street from Lake Gwelup so you could grab a takeaway drink and go for a walk around the lake on a sunny day.

HYLIN

Where: 178 Railway Parade, West Leederville WA

Hylin is one of my favorite cafes in Perth so far if you like trendy, hipster-esque spaces. They make a damn good bagel, have potted plants hanging from the ceiling and make a cool spot for a first date, if you’re also currently turning Tinder into a hobby. They also have free wifi, super friendly staff and are speedy if you’re just there for a grab and go latte.

HEALTH FREAK CAFE

Where: Various cafes in Perth and Sydney

A chain cafe with locations in Perth and Sydney, Health Freak Cafe is basically as the name sounds – healthy and geared towards those who are into nutritious and delicious foods. Everything on their menu is gluten and sugar free, they have everything from protein packed vegan pancakes (plus an entire vegan section on their menu), full on lunch and dinner meals, a kid-friendly section on the menu, plus a huge selection of brekky dishes for a healthy brunch. This is my go-to place for smoothie bowls, vegan eats and I basically swing by anytime I’m at Scarborough Beach.

DORIC ST. CAFE + KITCHEN

Where: 4/11 Doric St., Scarborough WA

A hidden gem nestled deep in the ‘burbs of Scarborough, Doric St. combines seriously excellent coffee with a menu highlighting a Korean twist. This place is unique, has a wonderful chai latte and is on the drive to the daycare I have to go to twice a week with the kids I’m looking after as an au pair (and I swear she cries if I don’t go to a cafe, so we go).

YELO

Where: 31 W Coast Dr, Trigg WA

Yelo, Trigg’s best ocean view cafe. Walkable distance from both Trigg Beach and Mettams Pool, dog friendly, healthy food and drinks, outdoor seating with a stunning view of the water and the sunset, there is little more you can ask for in a beach-side cafe. Yelo has a very surfer, beachy vibe, is super casual and always seems to be busy. You can easily rock up in your beachwear, flip flops and feet covered in sand without a second glance. Yelo is also located in Subiaco and Mount Hawthorn but I reckon the Trigg location is top notch because what can be better than a cafe by the sea? Nothing.

Bonus Hidden Gem Cafe – LITTLE SISTO

Where: 145 Sackville Terrace, Doubleview WA

Little Sisto is a tiny little cafe hidden in the suburbs. You would easily drive right by it without noticing if you didn’t know it was there, but now you do so you should go check it out. With dark walls, low-hanging lightbulbs creating slightly dim, mood-lighting and a space out back where you can chill outside, it’s definitely worth popping in.

Yessss thanks girl. I used to live in Perth and this would have been very helpful. I have been to two cafes on this list. Kaffine and Yelo. I also really love Little Sisto. A hidden gem that does the most amazing almond milk lattes using freshly made almond milk. It’s incredible, I miss it daily. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Lucy!! I noticed Little Sisto on the daily drive to daycare and popped in randomly one day – such a happy surprise! I haven’t tried the almond milk lattes, I’m going to go today and try it out haha, thanks for the recommendation 🙂

It’s been a year since I moved to the comox valley - and almost as long since I posted on here!

I look back on the intentions I was calling in at the end of 2022: to live by the water, to have more female friendships, more love, simplicity, a fun + flexible routine - and I find myself exactly where I wanted to be.

At that time I was in Mexico after being laid off, life coaching and having a good time, planning out my next move and spending a lot of time thinking about moving to Vancouver or Vancouver island.

By the end of January I had a job and a week later I was on the island.

This past year has been a practice to learn how to live in and enjoy just being here before racing off to the next thing. We can be so quick to jump from one big goal to the next that we don’t take time to slow down and actually sit in it and appreciate it for a while.

So what have I been doing since I moved here?

I’ve been playing with rescue cats and kittens every weekend

I’ve been racing to the ocean with binoculars to try and see the whales when someone mentions they’re nearby

I’ve been waking up, pouring a coffee and walking in a cozy hoodie to the shore literally across the street

I’ve been checking out waterfalls, watching sunsets from my kayak, eating brunches, writing in cafes, walking through forests of old trees, taking ocean dips even in winter, making friends, trying out pottery, dancing, reading on beaches, going to shows, and generally just learning to be present and slow down long enough for me to catch up with myself.

I’m thinking that this year is going to look much the same and I’m pretty okay with that 🌊

Everyone needs alone time - not just your introvert friends!

I know not all of us LIKE spending time alone - but all of us NEED some regular alone time.

And check out all the epic perks of spending time alone. Who doesn’t want to know themselves and trust themselves more? Who doesn’t want to feel centered and grounded?

I’d argue that prioritizing time alone is one of the key contributors to living a life that feels good - without it, we lose access to this sacred, deeper connection to ourselves.

And when we lose that connection, we lose our way.

My hope is that this can be a space where you can learn how to and be inspired to spend more quality time with you, yourself and you.

Because after all, you shouldn’t be enjoying yourself ONLY when you’re with other people. Enjoying the time you spend alone means MORE happiness in life, MORE contentedness, MORE peace.

➡️If you’re someone struggling to enjoy spending time alone, scroll on down to my post from March 13th to find 14 ways to spend quality time with yourself.

➡️If you know your relationship with yourself has taken a hit and you want to work with a life coach to get it back and build a relationship with yourself that’s better than ever before, you’re in the right place. Send me a dm at @michellebelair_ to find out more!
