Crystal Cascades and Fairy Falls, Cairns

After a fantastic day waterfall hopping through the popular waterfall circuit in the Atherton Tablelands we decided to spend our Saturday looking for more. Crystal Cascades is an extremely popular waterfall near Cairns that is visited daily by people of all ages. A long steady river with various pools to jump into, boulders to climb on, mini waterfalls and the larger waterfall at the highest point of Crystal Cascades, this waterfall makes for a great day in the sun. From the parking lot you can walk along the paved footpath for 2km one direction to the top of th[...]

Chasing 3 of the Best Waterfalls Around Cairns

Northern Queensland is known for it's diverse tropical landscape - from the largest coral reef to the oldest rain forest in the world, this part of Australia is filled with natural beauty that you could spend weeks exploring. When you're here, one of the greatest ways to explore nature is to go in search of some of the best waterfalls around Cairns.Yesterday, two friends and I hopped in the car and took ourselves on a day trip to tour some of the most popular waterfalls around Cairns: Millaa Millaa, Zillie, and Ellinjaa. Our drive took us from the no[...]

Banos: The Ecuadorian Adventure Town

The journey crossing the border from Colombia to Ecuador by bus - despite making me really nervous to do alone - ended up being a breeze. After spending a night in a hotel on the border of Colombia, I hailed a taxi to the border and before I knew it, I was walking across a bridge; out of one country and into another in under two minutes. A little chit chat with immigration officials, passport stamped and it was sorted. Soon enough, I was on a bus out of there. Sometimes I wind up in countries or cities without really knowing why I want to go there in the first p[...]

Chasing Waterfalls in St. Vincent

I have been spending my days chasing waterfalls, in search of the tallest, most beautiful one. Ideally one that is hiding a secret cave for me to explore. After a turn in the wrong direction and a hike up the side of a mountain, we finally made it to the main road just north of Chateaubelair. We said hello to the goats, donkeys and cows that we passed by until we reached the sign. The fact that there is a very obvious sign to Dark View Falls is a blessing. In my experience in the Caribbean even notable tourist attractions are completely unmarked, making dire[...]

A Day Trip To Maracas Falls and Maracas Bay, Trinidad

If you're in Trinidad for any amount of time, spend a morning exploring Maracas Falls and then make your way to Maracas Bay. The falls are a nice little hike up a somewhat well-maintained nature trail that shouldn't take you more than twenty-five minutes at a slow pace. At the start of the trail is a fountain of fresh spring water that you can safely fill up your water bottle with for the journey. As you wind your way up through the woods, be careful where you step as rocks may be loose and if it has recently rained or is raining, the path can be slippery. Br[...]

Banff, Alberta: Spray River Horseback Tour

"This is Brew," is your only introduction to the animal being handed to you and you quickly begin to become acquainted to the gelding you're about to spend an hour with and trust to take you safely through the muddy trails. One foot snugly in the stirrup, it's a familiar feeling to swing your other leg up and over until you're seated up on the horse's back. Last weekend I took a day trip to Banff with a friend and the highlight of the whole thing was easily the horseback riding. Banff Adventures offer a number of different rides, from one hour up to an entire s[...]
